A creative headshot portrait session in York with Imogen

The word ‘headshot’ conjures up a mental image of someone stood stiffly, looking awkward and serious in front of a plain background. It doesn’t have to be that way! Many of us, especially if you run your own business or enterprise, need up-to-date images of ourselves for our websites and social media (I need to do this too!), but we don’t want boring, stiff images. We want images that represent who we really are. Oh and we’re probably not naturally confident in front of the camera, so we need a photographer who will make us feel relaxed.

I love doing these kinds of shoots and meeting interesting new people. I’m so often working with young children or on busy wedding days, that it makes a lovely change to work with adults without that rush!

Nearly everyone feels at least a little nervous about having their picture taken so I will give you some gentle guidance on how to stand or what to do with your hands, but mainly we’ll just have a stroll and a chat and it’s all super-relaxed. This is what Imogen and I did recently and you can see sample below of the huge range of shots and backdrops we achieved in just 45 minutes together on a stroll around York.

Imogen is setting up a new website to promote her professional singing career and I can’t wait to see some of her images featured and follow her progress! Wishing her lots of luck with her singing.

If you need some images of yourself for your website and social media but have maybe been putting it off or feeling nervous because you think you hate having your picture taken, then get in touch and let’s have a chat about how we can make this work for you!
