A Country, Handmade, Barn Wedding in Essex- Josh and Fe
Take your partner by the hand and...get married! Country was the order of the day for Josh and Fe's incredible barn wedding in Essex at the start of August. You'd be forgiven for thinking that this is an established wedding venue when you see the pics but in fact the reception was held in Fe's family friends' 'garden' and they lent them their barn and field for the day. That's one hec of a friend and neighbour!
Fe looked just beautiful in her flea market-sourced dress and handmade hair piece. Josh didn't scrub up too badly either and he even managed to find an elf-sized shirt which fitted (his words)!
The ceremony itself was held in Radwinter Church, a very special place for Fe who has been attending since childhood. Of course, being these two, there was some amazing live music which had the congregation bopping and applauding! And a highlight for everyone was a reading written by Fe for Josh and read (at the last minute) by Josh's brother. I honestly don't think I have ever heard such confident, eloquent readings as there were in this service - very impressive!
There were so many handmade, creative touches that made this day exceptionally personal and special. Fe, Josh and many of their family and friends are talented musicians and artists. Their inventiveness shone through all day from Fe's illustrations on the order of service booklet and the brilliant stop watch timetable for the day, to the pretty individual candle and flower holders, the abundant bunting, the sinage, the cake labels... I could go on!
Food, food, food! Meat lovers were in heaven with the succulent hog roast and 'posh' bubble and squeak prepared by a long-known local producer. Veggies didn't go without either. I loved the simplicity of the 3 separate cakes and the cake toppers were just perfect for this pair of fantasy fans! There was such a relaxed vibe with guests sitting where they pleased inside and out.
This continued during the speeches when guests sat around on the floor of the immense barn while the speakers took the mic. at the front. The speeches were funny and told the perfect story of this unique pair who really are made for each other; I felt the warmth for them flowing through the (giant) room. Fe is the second bride I've seen recently to make a cracking speech herself and show the guys how it's done! Loved it.
An absolutely brilliant day was rounded off in perfect style with a beyond-lively, hilarious ceilidh dance with fantastic live music which the guests through themselves into full throttle! Focusing on those fast movers certainly put me to the test! I didn't stick around late enough to see the fire pit (if the rain held off) or the guests' camping adventures but I can be sure a lot of fun was had by all!
As most of you know, I love working with couples who aren't too hung up on tradition. Thank you so much, Josh and Fe, I loved loved loved your day - you are just SUCH lovely people! I left with a full heart (and belly!) and you truly did it YOUR way. I hope your musical, artistic adventures continue for many decades to come. Well you're so sickeningly young, you're in with a fighting chance ;).
